gospel threads 1White Thread: GOD IS HOLY

God made the world and everything in it, including people.  But God is different from us.  God is holy, which means he’s “perfect” and “without sin.” The Bible confirms this idea in Isaiah 43:15, where it says:

I am the Lord, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.
Isaiah 43:15

This white yarn is our first “thread” to remind us that God is holy. {Weave the white yard into the back cover of your booklet.  You may find it helpful to wrap a small amount of tape around the end of the yarn to create a “needle” for threading.}

gospel threads 2Black Thread: MAN IS SINFUL

Even though we were created by God, we were corrupted by sin.  Sin is when we think, say, or do things that do not please God. Even though we know we sin, we sometimes look at other people and think we are not that bad.  But next to God’s holiness, our sin is obvious.

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1 John 1:8

The black yarn is our second “thread” to remind us that we are sinful. {Weave the black yarn into the back cover of your booklet.  Again, if desired, use tape wrapped around the yarn to help weave the yarn through the paper.}

gospel threads 3Because God is holy, He cannot dwell with sin.  Because we are sinful, our since causes us to be SEPARATED from God. {Draw a line between “GOD” and “US” to represent the barrier that sin creates.}

But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.”
Isaiah 59:2

gospel threads 4Red Thread: JESUS IS SAVIOR

God sent His son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. Since Jesus came from God, he was PERFECT.  He lived the life we could not live. The Bible says in 1 John 3:5:

…he appeared in order to take away the sins, and in him there is no sin.
1 John 3:5

Jesus allowed himself to be our SUBSTITUTE and to die on a cross as the punishment for our sin.  HE died the death WE deserved to die. {Draw a cross around the word “Jesus”.} The red yarn is our third “thread” to remind us how Jesus bled and died for us on the cross. {Weave the red yarn into the booklet.}

gospel threads 5Although Jesus died, three days later God resurrected him, showing His power over sin and death. {Draw an upright person illustrating Jesus being raised to life.} Through his resurrection, Jesus became the SAVIOR of the world! The Bible says,

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…
1 Peter 1:3

gospel threads 6Green Thread: FAITH IS NECESSARY

Faith means we TURN from our sin and TRUST in Jesus. {Draw arms reaching toward Jesus showing we are not trying to hold on to both our sin and Jesus.  Instead, we are turning FROM our sin and turning TO Jesus in faith.} If we place our faith in Jesus, we will have NEW LIFE in Christ and ETERNAL LIFE in heaven.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 5:17

The green yarn is our fourth “thread” and reminds us of the new life we have through Jesus Christ. {Weave the green yarn into the booklet.}

gospel threads 7Yellow Thread: SPIRIT IS HELPER

When Jesus returned to God in Heaven, He sent the Spirit to be our HELPER.  So when we come to Christ in faith, the Spirit comes to live in us.

If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
Romans 8:11

This same Spirit shows us how to pray, understand the Bible, and share God’s love with others. The yellow yarn is our fifth “thread” and reminds us that the Spirit is our helper and guides us like a light on a dark path. {Weave the yellow yarn in the booklet.}
