What a blessing to join forces with Lifeline’s (un)adopted ministry in Colombia.
Lifeline’s (un)adopted ministry “exists to equip the body of Christ to manifest the Gospel to vulnerable children around the world.”
However, the ministry of (un)adopted was faced with the reality that a large majority of children who are considered orphans will not be adopted. Various factors including age, special need, and life circumstance, often prevent orphaned and vulnerable children from adoption. These children often face a future with little hope, and are vulnerable to sexual exploitation, drug abuse and slavery. By no fault of their own, many are unprepared for adulthood and have no knowledge of a Heavenly Father who loves them.
(un)adopted was born with the vision to reach these children who are labeled “unadoptable”.
As a ministry of Lifeline Children’s Services, (un)adopted is uniquely positioned to initiate effective change. The call to rescue the orphan in distress cannot be fulfilled through adoption alone. (un)adopted was created to reach orphaned and vulnerable children with the Hope of the Gospel and the life skills needed to bring about community transformation. Projects include life and job skill training, education opportunities, foster care and caregiver training.
The Gospel is at the heart of what they do and is the foundation of the ministry of Lifeline.
Why the Name? They say they often receive the question, “What does (un)adopted mean?” The parenthesis play an important role in the name of (un)adopted. Many of the children Lifeline works with are considered hopeless, undesirable, and unadoptable by the world. By separating “(un)” in parenthesis, the word “adopted” us left. Though the children they work with may never be adopted by an earthly family, their heart is to reach them with the Gospel, teaching them that through the work of Christ, they can be adopted into His family. The name “(un)adopted” portrays the reality faced by so many children in the world today, but focuses on the heavenly reality that, if they trust Christ as their Savior, they will be part of His family forever.
What can we do? The answer – something. Anything.
The need is so large that it can be overwhelming. But if many do something, change happens.
Our project. Simple. A stuffed animal and a $5-$10 earned and given by kids for kids.
Most of the kids in orphanages in Colombia have little to nothing. So the needs are vast. Money is needed for basics like pillows, mattress covers, and beds. Money is needed for medical supplies including fresh bandages, therapeutic lotions, medications, and feeding tubes (so they don’t have to be re-used!). Money is needed for school supplies.
Contact Lifeline’s (un)adopted ministry and engage in the fight to show love… and give hope and encouragement to those that are orphaned in life….. but adoptable into the family of God!
Note: We chose to try and send money through Lifeline so supplies could be purchased in country. This way supplies that are actually needed are purchased, and buying supplies in country helps their local economy. #helpingthatdoesn’thurt
