One Way Ministries, a mission focused organization, seeks to spread the Gospel to impoverished, desperate, and forgotten people groups around the world. It is their desire to follow the Biblical mandate to teach the Word and reach the World for the glory of God! Through short-term mission trips, they come alongside the local church in various countries to enable and equip them to reach their communities with the love of Christ!
Our Passport group desired to partner with One Way Ministries to serve the people of Guatemala.
What we did:
One Way Ministries works with a local church in Sajcavilla, a generally poor region of Guatemala located about 30 minutes outside of Guatemala City. We gathered and donated school supplies for One Way to pass along to ministry partners on the ground in Sajcavilla. While parents there are very involved, most families make under $50/month and are unable to provide uniforms, as well as the much needed school supplies that will last throughout the year. We were able to show the love of Christ to students in Sajcavilla by providing these important supplies for the families who are unable to afford the basic necessities of education!

Our group was able to purchase enough supplies to provide for a classroom of 30 students!
This project provided a welcome opportunity to experience gratitude for educational tools our children need…. but are also generally capable of acquiring. It was also a good reminder that we are blessed, not just for our own benefit, but for the benefit of others and the furthering of the Gospel. Providing “gifts of encouragement” to others shows love and is an outworking of the truth of Psalm 67:
May the Lord be gracious to us and bless us.

Note: we purchased school supplies here instead of in country in Guatemala because it was something tangible our students could relate to, and because we had a team from our city going to Guatemala that could take the supplies. Generally speaking, donations that provide for supplies can be purchased in country and help the local economy are best.
