Latin America is unusual in that it is not a continent like Europe or Asia.  Instead, it is an area that spreads over part of North America, most of South America, and also includes many Caribbean Islands.  It gets its name from the Europeans who began settling in the area in the 1500s.  They came from Spain, France and Portugal, places where the languages were based on Latin.  Cool, huh?

The Passport to Latin America curriculum offers content focused on Latin America within the various types of curriculum for kids.  Different curriculum types for different curriculum needs.  For example, Passport Adventure Club and Passport Mission Club are 32 weeks of curriculum to be used in schools and churches respectively.  Passport Camp is a 5-Day offering for summer.  Passport Intensive is a 6-week concentrated focus on each continent. In each of these lines of curriculum kids will engage in a fun, immersion type experience that is chock-full of food tasting, art projects, missionary studies, prevalent religions, unreached people groups, hands-on (literally!) geography activities, and maybe a song and a verse or two in Spanish….. And “wah-lah”…. we bring the Latin American world to life!

Where We’ll Go…

Destination – Latin America!

Exciting stops on our journey include the Baja Peninsula, the rugged Sierra Madre Mountains,
the timeless Galapagos Islands, the Rio Grande, the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean,
peaceful Lake Titicaca, the dramatic Andes Mountains, the mystical Amazon Rainforest, Iguazu Falls,
wild Cape Horn at the tip of South America, and many, many more exotic locations.

What We’ll Do…

  • Make our own adobe mud and paint with it!
  • Learn how to crack a coconut
  • Recite John 3:16 in Spanish
  • Design our own poncho
  • Create a one-of-a-kind Model Magic map of South America
  • Try our hand at Bible translation
  • Huichol yarn painting anyone?
  • Draw some map graffiti, man!
  • Taste a bowl of Gallo Pinto
  • Make a paper collage of a slithery snake or a green tree frog
  • Hear the Bible spoken in various tribal languages
  • Experience the art of bark paper painting
  • Chew on some real sugar cane
  • Study a slow sloth
  • Paint a wonderful watercolor of a unique butterfly species
  • Make and eat “cacao” ice cream

Is the trip worth it?

While the exciting experiences on this journey will capture the imagination of these young travelers, the true worth of the trip is found in experiencing an encounter with God as we:

  • pray for the people in each Central and South American country
  • broaden our understanding of Catholicism and syncretism
  • develop compassion for the plight of unreached people
  • follow the footprints that daring missionaries, such as Cameron Townsend and Jim Elliot, left across the Latin American region
  • flesh out what it means to serve the world

….. these experiences all stretch the hearts of kids.

But the CAPSTONE EVENT on this journey is a consistent investment in helping kids understand what it means to become “Friends with God”. Kids will learn that while they were created to be friends with God, our sin has destroyed this relationship. However, Christ has made a way for our friendship with God to be restored. Monthly memory verses gird up the precepts in this little booklet. And really, can you think of anything more important to teach in a missions curriculum than how kids can…

know the truth, own the truth, and share the truth they have learned with others?

We can’t.
